The first thing to do is clean it with an antiseptic then all you can do is apply neosporin, cover it and keep it dry. It will take a long time for the nail to grow out so try to keep it trimmed so you don't catch it on something.
Clean it gently two times a day with warm soap and water. I agree, use neosporin and cover all of it, and use a bandaid. Take aspirin for the pain, and within 48 hours, the pain should go away, and it will begin to heal. It may mend itself together, or grow with a ridge in the middle where it was split. Either way, it will grow out to normal.
Just leave it alone. Don't pick at it and try to keep it dry.
