He says it feels like there's a stick in it, because it stings so badly. It constantly tears, even in his sleep. Is it going to heal itself? Going to a doctor is not really an option for him. A scratch to the white part of the eye is usually not a problem. There is the covering of the eye, the conjunctival membrane and the eye itself, the sclera.
